The Prompt


Congressional District offices are welcome to choose any prompt that focuses on youth engagement in the American Democracy as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Below are some examples that could be used.

  • What do you value about American Constitutional democracy and what are your hopes for its future?

  • How do you view your generation’s role and responsibility as an active participant in America’s democracy?

  • What makes our democratic system of government strong and what are the challenges that weaken it?

Why you should participate

This contest offers students a chance to engage deeply with fundamental questions about our democracy while developing critical thinking and writing skills.

Any winning prize or recognition will be determined by the individual Congressional office.

Participation in the contest can serve as a addition to a college or internship application.
