Congressional Essay Contest
What Is a congressional essay contest
A Congressional Essay Contest provides high school students with the opportunity to share their outlook on our representative democracy, on civic engagement, and on their role in a healthy political dialogue.
This program launched in 2026 as a celebration of America’s 250th birthday and is envisioned to continue as a yearly tradition offered by Congressional district offices.
An essay contest showcases the special and unique voices of the next generation by engaging students in Congressional districts across America and serves as a snapshot of how the country views the health of our representative democracy on its 250th birthday.
The Goal of A contest
Engage young Americans in meaningful reflection on democracy and civic participation
Celebrate America's Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) through youth voices
Build bridges across differing viewpoints and experiences within communities
Recognize student excellence in civic thinking and writing
Strengthen democratic participation for the next generation
